Little Tyresö, the youth hostel of Tyresö, is situated on a hill close to
Tyresö´s church and castle. It consists of three buildings - Prinsvillan,
Lakejvillan and Handelsboden (The Prince Villa, the Footman Villa and the
General store). The first house on the hill was built in the middle ages, when
the hill was still an island. It was called Tyresöhus (Tyresö Hall) and was
destroyed in a fire in 1613. Of the buildings the Footman Villa is probably the
oldest. In the Prince Villa the Swedish Prince Eugene stayed for eighteen
summers.
The prince is a well-known painter and in the surroundings of Tyresö he found
motives for some of his best known paintings. The villas are now restored and
house conference rooms and a youth hostel.
As a guest at Little Tyresö you have access to a kitchen. There is a breakfast
room and a small kiosk at the reception. It is four kilometres to the nearest
grocery store (two and a half miles).

Conferences
Little Tyresö offers a royal setting for your conference. In the Prince Villa
you can stay overnight at a moderate rate and enjoy the beautiful area.
The surroundings of Little Tyresö invite a lot of activities. You can visit the
castle, take a walk in the English Park - or go fishing. Near the castle lies a
market garden well worth a visit..
From the park a bridge leads to the island of Notholmen. Here you have an
excellent opportunity to bathe.
Tyresö Castle
When Tyresöhus was destroyed by a fire in 1613, Gabriel Oxenstierna, who was
Lord High Chancellor and a friend of the king, decided to build Tyresö Castle.
The building was finished in 1633. Many distinguished people have owned the
castle - among others Maria Sofia De la Gardie - a lady who started several
successful industries during the 17th century.
Today the Nordic Museum owns the castle and it is open for guided tours during
the summer. In the west wing you will find the Tyresö Slottskrog, an excellent
restaurant for lunch and dinner. In the courtyard you can visit a café as well
as an outdoor summer restaurant.
Activities
The youth hostel is situated by the sea not far from the wide spread forests of
Tyresta National Park and a new natural reserve called Sandholmarna, which is a
peninsula with cliffs and a sandy beach. In the neighbourhood is Uddby gård
with farm animals and a little café.
The beautiful surroundings of the castle invite a variety of activities, a walk
in the English Park, a visit to the nearby market garden or the café in the
courtyard.
